Seachem Reef Dip is a powerful coral disinfectant that contains an elemental iodine complex, designed to safely and gently disinfect corals. It is effective against bacteria, fungus, and protozoans, making it an essential tool for both prophylactic use and treating diseased specimens. Reef Dip is suitable for use with both stony and soft corals, as well as anemones and polyps. The product provides a protective slime coat that covers the coral, holding the iodine in contact with the infected site for extended periods and preventing re-infection.

Key Features

  • Elemental Iodine Complex: Provides effective disinfection against bacteria, fungus, and protozoans.
  • Protective Slime Coat: Forms a protective slime coat that holds iodine in contact with infected sites for extended periods.

  • Safe for Corals: Forms a protective slime coat that prevents re-infection.
  • Trusted Brand: Seachem is known for its high-quality, scientifically-backed aquarium products.

Initial Setup

  1. Prepare the Dip Solution:

    • Remove 4 liters (1 US gallon) of water from your aquarium and place it in a separate container suitable for dipping.
    • Add 5–10 mL (1–2 capfuls) of Reef Dip™ to the water and mix thoroughly.
  2. Dip the Coral:

    • Place the coral specimen in the dip solution for 15–30 minutes, depending on the severity of the problem.
    • For very severe cases, a double dose may be used.
    • If there are clear and accessible lesions, you can apply the dip concentrate directly to the lesions before placing the coral in the dip solution.
  3. Observe:

    • Monitor the coral during the treatment for any adverse reactions, such as excessive sliming.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Dipping:

    • Use Reef Dip prophylactically to prevent infections when introducing new corals to your aquarium.
    • Regularly inspect your corals for signs of disease and use Reef Dip™ as needed to treat any issues.
  2. Post-Dip Care:

    • After dipping, return the coral to the aquarium and observe it for any signs of stress or continued infection.
    • Ensure that your aquarium water parameters are optimal to support coral health and recovery.
  1. Can Reef Dip be used with coral crabs and shrimp?
No, remove crabs and shrimp from the coral before dipping as they are sensitive to the medication.

  2. Does Reef Dip protect against hydroids?
No, Reef Dip is primarily used to combat bacterial and protozoan infections and is not effective against hydroids.

  3. Is Reef Dip safe for Tridacna clams?
Reef Dip is intended for corals and anemones. It is not recommended for clams, though some aquarists have used it in very dilute solutions at their own risk.
